Waiting for Godot

At the beginning of the story Waiting for Godot, I felt there was no real point to Vladimir and Estragon to wait for Godot.  Afterall they were not even certain of what they were waiting for.  However as the story went on and the characters became more understood I began to see a hint of satire toward humanity.  It almost seemed as if the author was portraying man-kind as not certain of what they want.  When Pozzo and Lucky enter there was one part that stood out extremely to me.  As at the beginning of the story when the two men were discussing the bible it seemed they were neither certain what was in the bible with the story of the two thieves.  They were clearly unfamiliar with the bible however then when Pozzo asks Estragon’s name he tells him his name is Adam.  As I mentioned earlier this seems like the author making the connection between the two men and mankind itself.  However why would Estragon say this if he was unfamiliar with the bible?  The story of Vladimir and Estragon waiting for Godot thus far into the story seems to have not point what so ever and leaves the reader in complete confusion.  The depiction of humans not knowing what they want or what they are waiting for seems to be meaning behind the story.
Why did Estragon tell Pozzo his name was Adam?
What exactly is the kind of prayer they are waiting for?

Why would they be waiting for a prayer from a man who beats his servants?
