Monstars: Othello

While I enjoyed the book Othello, I found the ending of it to be extremely predictable. I know it is supposed to be a tragedy, so naturally I expected most of the main characters to die in tragic and supposedly “unexpected” ways, especially Desdemona and Othello. However, I do have to admit that I did enjoy the extra drama added by Emilia when she finally told everyone what Iago had done and how he had manipulated everyone in the room against each other. Out of all the characters, I would definitely have to say that Iago was my favorite. Not only did he successfully manage to manipulate Othello, who is known for being level headed and calm, but also he successfully managed to manipulate Cassio, Roderigo, Emilia, and Desdemona and pretty much destroy their whole lives. I would have to say that my favorite parts out of Othello were when everyone would leave the room and Iago would be there talking about all his evil plans to himself. I can just picture him laughing evilly and rubbing his hands together mischievously. Also I can’t help but imagine how differently the play would have turned out if someone had walked in on him talking to himself about his “evil” plan.
