Monstars: The Rape of the Lock

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the fact that Alexander Pope turned a girl crying over a lost locket of hair into a tragedy? An extremely well written one at that, too.  For example: “Her eyes half languishing, half drowned in tears; on her heaved bosom hung her drooping head, which with a sigh she raised, and thus she said: Forever cursed be this detested day, which snatched my best, my favorite curl away!” He made a girl who is totally sobbing and snotting all over the place because she lost a CURL sound basically like the hugest, saddest tragedy on earth.  I mean, even my eyes welled up a little bit while I was reading this.  I also really enjoy the fact that the huge “battle” leading up to the tragic loss of her hair was actually a card game named Ombre (which according to the subscript in the book, was too complicated to even begin to explain to the reader). Plus, the guy who won the hair from Belinda (who is a total creep by the way), didn’t even win it fairly. He CHEATED. When was the last time you cheated at a card game to win a lock of somebodies hair?
