Goblin Market Group 3

In the Goblins Market, we see many symbols and underlying messages that can be perceived in different ways.  During the scene with Lizzie and the goblins, we see that they are trying to force her to eat the fruit- "Tho' the goblins cuffed and caught her, coaxed and fought her, bullied and besought her, scratched her, pinched her black as ink, kicked and knocked her, mauled and mocked her, Lizzie uttered not a word" (812).  We see Lizzie risking her life for her sister, even though she knows that she could be tempted by the goblins to eat their fruit.  Much like when Jesus was fasting in the desert for 40 days, the devil would try to get Jesus to drink or eat, but Jesus refused.  So, we see that the goblins are like the devil because they get Laura to sin over and over causing her to deteriorate, but Lizzie saves her by letting Laura suck the juice off her face, regaining her "life".  Meaning, once people turn to Jesus they are receiving "new life" and become a better person overall.  Also, when they got older and had children, Laura and Lizzie would tell their kids the story about what happened, much like the Bible which also teaches lessons to be passed down to future generations.  My question to you is, do you think Lizzie knew that life would be restored in her after she sucked the juice off her face?  Why do you think Lizzie waited so long to go to the demons?
