Wife
of Bath Allusions
Although
we have already talked about some allusions from “Wife of Bath” in class, I
find most obvious those allusions we talked about in class. As I have been reading the tale of the wife
of bath it seems that she truly has no heart and does not care for anyone but
herself. She even talks about how when
her fourth husband died that she was basically faking the mourning of his death
because she had to. I am a woman so of
course I am for woman’s rights however there is a fine line between rights and
using men to your advantage. Wife of
bath has not truly cared for any of her husbands and most likely never
will. She will always take advantage of
the treasures they give her.
As
I was saying earlier the allusions we spoke about in class seem to be the most
clear in relation to wife of bath. She
speaks of wives killing their husbands and this is clearly her trying to
justify what she has done to her husbands.
Even though she never actually states that she has killed her husbands she
never seems to care when they do pass away.
The thing I found most interesting during the section discussing
allusions in the tale was the fact that her husband was telling her these tales
from his book. The same book that she
ended up being hit in the ear and becoming deaf from because she attempted to
ruin it.
I wonder most whether she will ever
find true love or if she will forever use men for her own benefit. Also how long she can keep getting rid of her
husbands before someone notices the trend.
I like that you discussed your own opinion concerning women's rights and how the Wife of Bath takes it too far. It would be great to accent this with some direct references from the tale, maybe a quote or two. Also, although you mentioned allusions, you didn't pull any from the tale. I think doing so would flesh out your remarks about them.
